ROUTE DESCRIPTION

This route starts off on some busy roads. As you turn right out of the parking lot it won't be long before you are turning right onto Hwy. 48. This road can be busy, but it has a small shoulder that provides a bit of protection. This section is only 3.3 km long which has a long downhill section, so your time spent here is minimal. Once you turn onto Cherry St. you will feel you are now riding in the country. This road is short, but it offers some small climbs amidst the rolling terrain. The fun really begins when you turn right onto McCowan Rd. This road offers 8 km of solid rollers. If you have a tailwind the ride down McCowan can be great fun. You will see views of horse farms and farmers fields as you speed your way along the hilly landscape.

The left hand turn onto Herald Rd. will bring into a slightly forested area, again, traversing terrain that is rolling through nature. At the end of this road is Warden Rd. This is a section of road that tends to get more traffic than you would want, although it's not that bad. This can be a grind uphill, but a great place to elevate your heart rate and push your limits. After 8 km of mainly uphill and false flats you will get to Holborn Rd. From here the roads are flat and will offer some respite.

The hills starts again as you turn onto Ravenshoe Rd. where the first hill is right in front of you. Once you crest the first hill, the second hill is in close succession. It's a great one two punch for the climbing legs. These two climbs span a distance of 4 km. At the top of the second climb you will turn right onto Concession Rd. 3/Regional 39. The road here is generally downhill until you reach the town of Zepher. There is a good climb out of town. Further down the road at the 39.3 km mark the road splits. Stay on Concession Rd. 3, which is straight. Do not turn right. Further up the road you will turn left onto Ashworth where a category 5 climb will be close at hand. It will have a max gradient of about 12% near the top.

At the top of the climb you will turn right onto Concession Rd. 4. and then 2.1 km later you'll turn right onto Sandford Rd. The best road is next...Concession Rd. 3. I love this section of road. If climbing up one hill, speeding down the other side and up again is for you, you will have a fantastic time climbing in this area. This will last for about 7 km. After you turn right onto Wagg Rd. the end is near, only 5 km left to go. Although the end is near, the hills keep coming. Be a little cautious on this road as there tends to be gravel trucks servicing the ugly gravel pit in the area. By and large this pit is fairly well hidden.
